Taj Mahal vs Cristallo Quartzite
Cristallo is the whiter, more dramatic choice: a near-white quartzite with glassy, translucent crystals, often backlit. Taj Mahal is warmer and quieter, easier to fabricate and easier to find: 22,841 slabs at 386 yards against 7,278 at 242.
How to tell them apart
Color first: Cristallo is white to pale grey, Taj Mahal cream to taupe. Then the crystals: Cristallo has glassy, translucent pockets that glow when lit from behind, which is why it is sold for backlit islands and bars. Taj Mahal isn't sold for backlighting.
Which should you choose?
Taj Mahal for a hard-working kitchen counter and an easy match across several slabs. Cristallo for a statement island, bar or backlit feature. Talk to your fabricator before committing to it: Cristallo is softer and more fracture-prone than most quartzite and is usually mesh-backed.
